The
Glory Singers are celebrating fifteen seasons of musical praise to the Lord in 2008-2009. They have performed sacred music from the classical, traditional, contemporary, and
gospel genres in churches throughout the American Pacific Northwest, with frequent concerts at The Old Church in Portland,
Oregon.
They
have also participated in four gala benefit concerts featuring local soloists from the opera, theater and concert stage, performing
music at The Sunken Ballroom of The Portland Art Museum, Canby Performing Arts
Center, The Scottish Rite Auditorium, Chateau
Benoit Winery.
The
Glory Singers have embarked upon two international concert tours.
The
first was British Columbia in 2003 where their performances received ovations from crowds in the Frasier Valley of Harrison
Hot Springs at The United Church of Agassiz, as well as, the historic city of Victoria B.C.
at The First Metropolitan Church in Victoria, and St. Andrew’s Cathedral in Victoria.
“…your
concert…was the highlight of our Concert Mini Series. You are talented
musicians and the choir and the band were terrific too. Happy singing and spreading
the Good News…” Jackie Ray, music director, St. Andrews Cathedral, Victoria, B.C.
“…your
performance has been the best event we have ever had in our church and will be regarded as the highlight of our 100 year centennial
celebration.”
Bruce Swift, The United Church
of Agassiz
“…how
thoroughly we enjoyed the concert…thank you very much for the beauty and joy you shared with all of us…the magic
of your voice Beth, is surely glorious in God’s sight.”
Lynda and Barry Britton, First Metropolitan United Church in Victoria B.C.
In
May of 2006, the choir traveled to Italy to perform concerts in Florence, Trevi and Rome
where they enjoyed appreciative audiences, standing ovations, and shouts of bravo and encore.
The choir’s itinerary included formal concerts at The Church of Santa Maria del Ricci in Florence,
The Church of Saint Francis in Trevi, and Chiesa Evangelica Valdese in Rome; singing for Mass
at Saint Peter’s Basilica in Rome, and a general audience
with Pope Benedict XVI. Informal singing was also enjoyed by all
at the airport, on the tour bus, in the hills of San Gimignano, and in the country side at Castallacio.
The
next tour destination, planned for season 2008-2009, is France.
